USD 353 LONGEVITY AWARDS were presented and this year's RETIREES were honored at the annual USD 353 Employee Recognition Program held at WHS Wednesday morning. Also presented, the EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD from the USD 353 Foundation for the 2017 school year.
Wellington had two bomb threats on Friday morning, Feb. 24.
The first dispatch went over scanners at 9:19 a.m. As a “possible bomb threat at Eisenhower School, 924 N. Plum.” The threat was made over the phone at approximately 9:15 a.m.
“The call sounded like a computer generated message,” said USD 353 Superintendent, Mark Whitener. “It sounded automated, but it may have been someone using some kind of device with their voice, but we don't know for sure.”
The five 2017 Wellington High School Duke candidates took time out for a photo-op this week. They are Brock Edwards (left), Noah Rinehart, Connor Burnett, Matthew Mason and Lukas Soria.
One of them will be crowned during coronation on the evening of Feb. 3 during the homecoming festivites at Wellington High School.

USD 353 Wellington Public Schools - Virginia Swecker, long-time Wellington resident and area educator will serve as the Lincoln Interim Principal for the remainder of the school year.
Virginia has taught both regular and special education and has served in a variety of administrative positions including Director of Special Education Interlocal 619 in Wellington, and Interim Director of Special Education in Haysville.

There was an assemply on Thursday afternoon at Kennedy Elementary to surprise the teachers there with $2,000 worth of school supplies, donated by Project Teacher and Rusty Eck Ford.

1. Meeting Opening
Summer officially ended today for most of USD 353 students - the 2016-2017 school year is up and running! The doors are open at all facilities, many new changes have occurred, it's going to be a great year! The upper classmen at WHS will not begin until tomorrow, Wednesday the 24th. Today at WHS is orientation day for the incoming Freshmen and also the new students at the home of the Crusaders...and we have a new mascot wandering around - awesome stuff!
