WHS Senior Brock Edwards is State 4A Boys Tennis Tournament bound after going 3-1 in Regional 4A action in Pratt both yesterday (THU 05.04.17) and today (FRI 05.04.17). The victory on the season moves Brock's record in singles to 19-8.
What a weekend for GIRLS TENNIS in Pratt. Our "6" Wellington girls, "1" Senior, "4" Juniors and "1" Freshman weren't about to leave any teammates behind when they departed Regional action in Pratt and now head to Winfield (T.H. Vaughn Tennis Center) for the State 4A Girls Tennis Championships beginning this Friday, Oct. 14th and concluding on Saturday, Oct. 15th. Start times, seedings and all of that coming soon!
In the meantime, let's review how the MAGNIFICENT SIX got to this point:
All "6" members of the WHS Varsity Girls Tennis squad are in action this weekend (Friday and Saturday) at the Regional 4A Tournament in Pratt. 1st round victories by all "6" insured continued play into Saturday.
This time next week the 2015-2016 school year will be in the can. All events will have ended - the year complete.
It ain't over yet though folks! Crusaders are spread out across the State of Kansas this week, after earning trips to their respective State Events!
STATE 4A GOLF
By winning the Regional 4A Tournament Saturday in Rose Hill, WHS Senior Heavyweight Wrestler Miguel Lujan (35-9) will go up against Iola's Colton Toney (19-11 and finished 4th at Regionals Saturday) in match 105 on Friday at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, KS. There were four 285 lb. qualifiers from each of the four 4A Regionals this past weekend, resulting in 16 wrestlers in the 285 weight class vying for the TOP 6 finishes and a State Medal this coming weekend in Salina.
It took 28 seasons since the WHS Volleyball Program came into fruition (1988-89) but what a "fun" 28th season it turned out to be. All these young former Lady Knights, now Lady Crusaders who for several years have spent hours and hours on the courts, during the season, during the off-season, whenever - were finally at the final stop - the State 4A Tournament! They're good friends and they were growing up together playing a game they all enjoyed tremendously and almost always with smiles on their faces. The cycle was complete.
STATE 4A VOLLEYBALL Pool Play bracketing for Friday's opening day of competition at this year's STATE 4A VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT at the Bicentennial Center in Salina was released today! Wellington has been placed in POOL 1 which will begin action early Friday...here's complete Pool Play info and times for all teams:
